Kyrgyzstan is a really multi-ethnic country with more than 80 nationalities living together. During this trip you will see the lifestyles of different nationalities in Kyrgyzstan. Each day you will share in the life of a family from a different ethnic background - cook different food and participate in a cultural program, listen to stories of Manaschy who sing about the epic hero of the Kyrgyz people, Manas. Make your own traditional Kyrgyz carpet and sing songs of different nationalities. The fresh air of the Ala-Too Mountains will give you energy for a long time. The beautiful scenery of the mountains and Lake Issyk-Kul and the traditional hospitality of the Kyrgyz people will make an indelible impression upon you.
Itinerary
| Day 1 |
Arrive in Bishkek. Family run accomodation in Bishkek. |
| Day 2 |
Departure to Karakol (400 km). On the way to Issyk-Kul Lake we will visit the "Petroglyphs" Open Air Museum. Arrive in Karakol and take up accommodation with different families (Kyrgyz, Russian, Uigur, Tartar and Dungan). |
| Day 3 |
City tour around Karakol, starting with the N. Prjgevalski Museum. Prjgevalski was a famous Russian traveler. You will visit a real Eastern Bazaar with different things and goods. 2 religious places - the wooden Russian Orthodox Church and the Chinese-style Muslim Mosque. Cook supper in a Russian family and enjoy a real Russian folk program during supper. |
| Day 4 |
Change families. Visit a handicraft workshop, where you will have the chance not only to see the process of making a traditional Kyrgyz Alagiiz carpet, but make a smaller one yourself. Cook Kyrgyz food and have supper with a Kyrgyz family accompanied by a performance by a traditional epic "Manaschy" singer. |
| Day 5 |
Change families. Excursion by car to the Jety-Oguz Gorge (40 km). After lunch you will cook Tartar food. |
| Day 6 |
Change families. Excursion on horseback to Karakol Gorge will take 3-4 hours. You will travel along a mountain river and through a forest. After lunch you will participate in cooking Dungan food. |
| Day 7 |
Change families. Excursion by car to spa Altyn-Arashan Mountain (altitude 2350 m). Wild scenery and on to a hot mineral water swimming pool. Supper will be with a Uigur family and you will see traditional Uigur dances. |
| Day 8 |
Depart for Bishkek along the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. Visit the Barskoon Gorge with its 3-cascade waterfall. Arrive in Bishkek. Accommodation in Bishkek. |
| Day 9 | Fly home. |
Level of difficulty: This tour is recommended for people who are interested in international cuisine and the cultures of different nationalities.
Conditions: It is necessary to bring a sleeping bag, warm clothes and trekking boots.
