We offer you a unique opportunity to witness a yurt being erected.
The Yurt is the traditional, felt dwelling of Kyrgyz nomads. It can be easily
erected and dismantled.
Nowadays, Kyrgyz people use yurts in their daily lives. The process of making
a yurt is also interesting, as everything is handmade and it can take anywhere
between 2-5 years to complete.
For nomads, erecting a yurt is not just setting up a dwelling, it's a ritual
which has its own traditions and meanings that go way back to ancient times.
Itinerary
| Day 1 | Depart from Bishkek and enjoy a picnic en route to your destination. Here you will visit a workshop where they make yurts. The artisan will show you the process of making a yurt and will tell you about his work. After this, you will dine with Kyrgyz families. Stay overnight with the Kyrgyz families. |
| Day 2 |
Today you will see and, if you so wish, take part in, the process of erecting a yurt from beginning to end. At the end you will be invited to the traditional celebration that follows the erecting of a yurt, after which you will return to Bishkek. |
