There are more than 350 different types of birds in Kyrgyzstan. Proud straightening wings falcon is a symbol of Kyrgyz Republic. You can see it on the National Emblem of Kyrgyz Republic. Your way will go up to 3700 m above a sea level and will pass through various climatic zones; from semi-desert of Western part of Issyk-Kul area to alpine meadows of Lake Song-Kul. You can see different types of birds: from wild spread birds like turtle-dove, swallow-dive, black thrush, sulfur crow, jackdaw and sparrow to rare kinds of birds, lives in our Republic. For example Ibidorhyncha struthersii (Ibisbill), Eulabelia indica, Charadrius mongolus (Lesser Sand Plover), Syrrhaptes paradoxus (Pallas's Sandgrouse), Falco peregrinus (Peregrine Falcon), Pterocles orientalis (Black-bellied Sandgrouse) and etc.

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Bishkek. City tour.
Day 2 Trip to Kochkorka (240 km). Visit a felt carpet workshop where it is possible to produce your own felt carpet and buy carpets or souvenirs. Overnight in family-run accommodation.
Day 3 Transfer from Kochkor to Song-Kul Lake (150 km). Stay on the shore of Song-Kul in the yurtas of local shepherds, who pass their summer on the jailoo (summer meadows) where they graze their cattle, sheep and horses. Accommodation is in a yurta - the traditional home of the nomadic shepherds.
Day 4 Free day on Son-Kul. You will see herds of horses and sheep, taste kumiz (fermented mare's milk) and observe the shepherd's wife preparing bread and cheese. If you wish, you can go horseriding along the lake shore, or walk in the hills around the mountain valley. You will stay in a yurta camp.
Day 5 Transfer to the starting point of your trek (about 60 km), where a tented camp will be waiting for you. The view of Song-Kul you get whilst walking on the surrounding hills is bound to impress you. Overnight in tents (3250 m).
Day 6-9 A 4-day trek through the Moldo Too mountain range takes you along a trail used by ancient nomads. The path goes through valleys and passes from 3400 m to 3700 m above sea level, through flower-covered meadows and mountains inhabited by Lammergeier vultures!, where herds of horses, cows and sheep graze around the yurtas of people who spend their summer on the jailoos.
Day 10 Transfer from Naryn to Tamga (320 km). Visit Orto-Tokoi Water reserve - on of the favoured places of water birds in the spring.
Day 11 One day travel to the Barskaun Gorge.
Day 12 Transfer to Karakol. City tour of Karakol.
Day 13 Trip from Karakol to Tup Gulf and then transfer to Cholpon-Ata where you can rest on the shore of Issyk-Kul Lake.
Day 14 Visit local markets and others places of interest.
Day 15 Fly home.

Level of difficulty: This tour is recommended for people with hiking experience (hiking time approximately 4-6 hours per day).

Conditions: It is necessary to bring a sleeping bag, warm clothes and trekking boots.
