Horse Riding Tour

Season: June - September
This horse riding tour takes you across the Barskoon gorge and Djuku River, located at the southern part of Issyk-Kul. This place has been untouched by civilization, thus you are given a chance to see the beauty of primordial nature: snow-capped mountains, virgin forests at their foot and mountain lakes with crystal clear water. Your journey takes you along the paths of the nomadic Kyrgyz, who drive their cattle to summer meadows (jailoo) from July till September. Throughout these days you experience different climatic zones - from semi-desert to tundra. On your way you will meet wild animals and birds, such as marmots, hares, foxes, falcons, and if lucky, even a bear. During the tour you will have a chance to spend a night in the real dwelling of these ancient nomads (yurtas) and experience their life and culture.
Itinerary
| Day 1 |
Arrival in Bishkek. Family run accomodation. City tour in the afternoon. |
| Day 2 |
Drive to Barskoon village (350 km - 6 hours). Accommodation in a private home and dinner with a Kyrgyz family. |
| Day 3 |
Drive to Lake Jashyk-Kul at an altitude of 3750 m (50 km - 1,5 hours). Get acquainted with the horses. Horse riding for 2,5-3 hours. Overnight stay in tents. |
| Day 4 |
On horseback for 5-6 hours. Cross a Pass (3800 m). Two mountain lakes (3200 m). Overnight stay in tents or yurtas, as you wish. |
| Day 5 |
On horseback for 5-6 hours. Descend along a river down to the level of 2500 m. Forests begin to appear. O/n in tents. |
| Day 6 |
On horseback for 5-6 hours along mountain slopes. Wonderful view of Issyk-Kul Lake. Beautiful scenery - glaciers on the right and forests on the left (3500 m). O/n in tents. |
| Day 7 |
On horseback for 5-6 hours. The path goes through undergrowth and bushes. Cross the Chon-Djyrgalchak river. O/n in tents (3200 m). |
| Day 8 |
Return to the village of Barskoon. Lunch. Russian sauna. Drive to Bishkek. O/n in family run accomodation. |
| Day 9 | Fly home. |
Level of difficulty: An average level of fitness is required because you will be on the horses for 5-7 hours each day. Overnights in tents above 3 000 m.
Conditions: It is necessary to bring a sleeping bag and worm clothes. Moderate Horse riding skills.
